Hunting Gear Review: The KUIU Kutana Storm Gaiters

For hunters on the move, gaiters are essential gear. When hiking for hours on end, it doesn’t take much for small rocks, pebbles, and more to make their way into your boots and impact a day.

We’ve tested numerous gaiters over the years, and among the many options, we’ve been very impressed with the KUIU Kutana Storm Gaiters. It may be hard to believe that there can be drastic differences between gaiters, and some high-end gaiters have fatal flaws. For example, we once tested one of the top company’s gaiters and found that the panels that hold the velcro were unacceptably loud when bent. It was a creaking sound of sorts that could easily spook animals during archery hunts.

Our experience with the KUIU Kutana Storm Gaiters was nothing but positive. Worn in the mountains of Montana, these lightweight gaiters weigh only 4 ounces each and are impressively durable. On some hunts, every ounce counts, and at 7.7 ounces for the pair, they don’t add any additional burden or cumbersome weight when worn or carried in the pack.

When it comes to durability, gaiters are intended to take on terrain that often contributes to abrasion, such as rocks, boulders, wet areas, brush, and more. The material KUIU chose for these gaiters are ready to take on the worst, while also offering windproof and waterproof protection.

Among other features, several points of adjustability help ensure the perfect fit as well as comfort. At the end of the day, you don’t want your gaiters on your mind — you want to put them on and hike without thinking about them.

The KUIU Kutana Storm Gaiters come in Large and XL, and in Vias, Verde, Valo, Ash, and Gunmetal.
