A good rain jacket is also a great rain jacket, because when it comes to mountain hunting, there’s no room for technical apparel failures in the field. Stone Glacier has an impressive track record of innovation and building apparel designed to take on the elements. The Stone Glacier M5 Jacket is no exception.
Testing the M5 Jacket, we found this jacket to be impressive for a variety of reasons. First, this jacket is very lightweight and can easily be folded up and put in a pack or a back without adding much weight or taking much space. This is vital. Generally, rain jackets are brought for those “just in case” moments rather than for frequent use. You don’t want to be caught without it, but it can’t be a burdensome extra. Additionally, this jacket is breathable. This is crucial. Even when it’s cold, it’s easy to work up a sweat in the mountains. Breathability helps keep you dry when it is wet on the other side of the jacket. Also helpful for this is the armpit zippers for ventilation.
Among other key features, the jacket features a hood that can be cinched tight, and the inside of the main zipper has a flap to help ensure water doesn’t come through and get your wet. The cuffs on the sleeves are adjustable so you get the tightness or looseness you desire, and of course, the jacket performs as expected and needed in the rain. The front pockets are easily accessible and have a nice low profile. However, do know that there isn’t a great deal of depth the the pockets below the zipper.
Overall, the Stone Glacier M5 Jacket is an outstanding jacket and one that will get plenty of use for years to come.
The M5 Jacket comes in Granite Grey and Coyote colors and in sizes small through XXL.
