Video: Winter Bison: The Hunt Within, Part 2

In a video from Greg McHale, hunters take on challenging winter conditions in pursuit of bison. This video break down everything from the prep work to the first hunt on this day. This is part two.

From Greg McHale:

“Winter doesn’t ease up with time. If anything, it asks for more. The cold deepens, the snow grows heavier, and the miles begin to wear on both body and machine. Out here, persistence matters as much as skill, and every choice carries weight when conditions turn against you.

The bison remain true to their nature—moving deliberately, using the land to their advantage, and disappearing into vast country that feels endless. Closing the distance requires patience, careful planning, and the willingness to push through fatigue when turning back would be easier.

Moments of stillness offer time to reflect on the animal being pursued and the land that sustains it. The bison is more than a symbol of the North—it’s a survivor, perfectly adapted to a world that few can endure. Matching that resilience, even briefly, becomes part of the challenge.

This is Part 2 of the winter bison hunt. The weather, the terrain, and the hunt itself converge as the journey reaches its final test in the deep cold of the North.”
