Video: Staying The Course: A Sheep Hunt, Part 2

In a video series, Greg McHale heads deep into the backcountry to hunt Dall sheep. This is part two of four.

From Greg McHale:

“The mountains have a way of wearing me down slowly. As the hunt continues, the miles add up and the terrain grows steeper, forcing every movement to be deliberate. Weather shifts without warning, and plans I make one night often need to change by morning.

Part 2 is about adapting. I spot rams and lose them again, close distance only to have it stretch back out, and spend long hours behind the glass trying to stay sharp. The physical strain never fully lets up, and mentally, the challenge becomes staying patient when progress feels slow.

Sheep hunting isn’t about constant action. It’s about restraint, reading the land, and trusting the process even when the mountains seem intent on pushing back. Staying the course means committing fully—mentally and physically—to the path I’ve chosen.”
