Just what you want to see after no luck hiking and glassing! A giant bull elk is harvested on a hunt in Idaho …
From Randy Newberg:
“In episode 2 of this late season Idaho elk hunt, Michael Parente is still on the search for a mature bull elk. The last couple days he and Marcus Hockett has explored the vast unit, covering country and glassing but still hadn’t laid eyes on a single elk.
They wake up early and decide to head back to the only spot where they have seen elk sign. The migration of elk in this unit is very weather dependent, and the season has been mild meaning a majority of the elk haven’t been pushed down into the winter range yet. Upon arriving, it starts snowing which will allow them to look for tracks. On the way in, Michael cuts very fresh elk sign which makes him confident there is an elk in the direct area.
As Michael crests over the ridge he spots 3 bulls bedded down in the bottom of this steep rocky canyon. Without any idea of his presence, Michael is able to take his time and get set up prone for a shot. He has all the time in the world, if he can stay calm and make a good shot, he’ll be headed back to Bozeman with hundreds of pounds of fresh elk meat.”
