Video: Hunting Nevada High Country Mule Deer

Some more public land rifle hunting action from Randy Newberg!

From Newberg:

“Randy Newberg, Matthew Newberg, Mike Spitzer, and Scott Jones continue this public land Nevada mule deer hunt. With Matthew now in camp, all three tag holders are ready to get serious about this hunt. Three days remain, with the rut picking up and the weather stabilizing. Now, it is hopefully a matter of getting enough optics on the mountain to find the kind of bucks this unit is known for. Matthew took a fine buck earlier in this day, leaving Randy and Mike to start focusing on filling their tags. While driving to a trailhead, Randy finds a group of deer with an old nasty buck tearing up the sage. Exactly what he was looking for. Mike and Randy decide to head up the mountain and try to get a chance at the buck. When the buck runs north, Mike sprints ahead to cut off the buck and his does, chasing them back south where Randy is waiting with his rifle and Marcus with his camera. A chaotic encounter results in Randy taking one of the more memorable bucks of his hunting days.”

Video: Hunting Mule Deer on Public Land in Nevada

Public land rifle hunting in Nevada for muleys with Randy Newberg.

On this morning, a good buck is spotted, causing Matthew to think it might be worth his time and effort. Mike and Scott stay back and glass, while Matthew and Randy drag the cameraman (Marcus) through the service berries and up the mountain in pursuit of this nice mule deer. Randy’s political dreams are dashed as he lands in a cactus and has to strip down to his skivies, which he put on backwards that morning while getting dressed in the early morning darkness.”

Video: Bowhunting Elk in New Mexico

A successful New Mexico public land hunt with Randy Newberg!

From Newberg:

“Randy Newberg and Corey Jacobsen are in western New Mexico archery hunting elk in late September. This public land hunt takes place during a full moon phase, putting Corey’s World Champion calling skills to the test.

Two days remain in the hunt. It is a coin toss as to whether we hunt the timber with the other hunters or if we head to the grasslands and have it all to ourselves.

Corey agrees to Randy’s one day at the grasslands and the final day in the timber. It doesn’t take long on this windy morning for some elk to show themselves and bed in what little shade exists. Time for the world elk calling champion to go into spot and stalk mode.

Five long miles from the truck, Corey culminates the hunt with a four-hour stalk that took amazing stealth and even more determination. By the time the bull is retrieved, the guys get to camp in the wee morning hours, providing a fitting end to a grueling and memorable hunt.

This is the longer day-by-day version of the hunt, showing many parts and information that get cut to meet the abbreviated time constraints of TV.

Thanks for watching.”

Video: New Mexico Archery Elk Hunting

There’s no question that New Mexico is one of the ultimate big game destinations, and in a new video, Randy Newberg and friend Corey Jacobsen head to the state for a big bull elk.

From Newberg:

“Randy Newberg and Corey Jacobsen are in western New Mexico archery hunting elk in late September. This public land hunt takes place during a full moon phase, putting Corey’s World Champion calling skills to the test.

This hunt is getting harder by the day. With a lack of elk in the higher country, Randy convinces Corey to go to the grasslands for spot and stalk. Corey, being the world champion elk caller, leaves his bow at the truck, giving Randy the option to use his stalking skills on these same lands where he has been successful in the past.

A nice bull is spotted at daylight, but somehow disappears into the canyons and bluffs. Other than a photogenic black bear, the rest of the day is mostly a lot of miles with hardly any elk to show for it. Time to cross this large area off the list of potential locations.

This is the longer day-by-day version of the hunt, showing many parts and information that get cut to meet the abbreviated time constraints of TV.”

Video: Hunting and Hauling Backcountry Elk

Sometimes the backcountry has the best rewards … but you have to work for it.

From Newberg:

“Randy Newberg, Hunter gives you a feel for what public land elk hunting can be, especially when excitement takes over and you shoot a bull elk in some God-forsaken place that requires two extra days to pack it out.

This Colorado elk hunt might get you laughing, but I wasn’t laughing at the time. “Don’t shoot an elk here!”

This is a behind-the-scene clip of what we go through in many of our self-guided public land elk hunts. The old axiom is true, ‘When the shooting stops, the work begins.’”
