Video: Hunting Blacktail Deer in Alaska (Ep. 1)

Sitka blacktail deer in Alaska are the focus of a hunt and a new video from Randy Newberg.

From Randy Newberg:

“In episode 1 of this Alaska blacktail hunt, Marcus Hockett is headed up to southeast Alaska with Jim Heffelfinger to meet up with Dr. Jim Baichtal. Baichtal is geologist for the Tongass National Forest, while Heffelfinger is a biologist with Arizona Game and Fish.

Heffelfinger has never hunted Sitka Blacktail, and finally gets to experience this bucket list item. After getting settled in, they site in their rifles to make sure they’re on before heading out for a hunt.

The plan for hunting is straightforward, they hike into areas that have openings amongst the thick timber and do fawn distress calls. The hope is that a doe will run into range in response to the call, and that a buck will be trailing her.”
